Going to the Party

A friend of mine loves to give parties. He delights in putting together all the particulars from decorations, to menus, to flower arrangements. Most of all, he just enjoys sharing his gift of hospitality. As a guest at his home I have been treated to beautiful surroundings, great food and a warm loving atmosphere. But I am also treated to some very fine company in the variety of guests who are welcomed to his table. Although many of us do not travel in the same social circle, we are a part of his circle. Because of this one connection, we have come to know each other, and look forward to seeing each other once or twice a year at our friend's home. It is a place we love to be, and it is another reminder of how much we touch each other lives.

It is rather confusing to me, then, this parable of the Great Supper Jesus tells while dining with a group of lawyers and Pharisees one evening. Jesus had just finished speaking about hospitality and humility when, "One of the dinner guests, on hearing this, said to him, 'Blessed is anyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God.' Then Jesus said to him, 'Someone gave a great dinner and invited many. At the time for the dinner he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, 'Come; for everything is ready now.' But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of land and I must go out and see it; please accept my regrets.' Another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen and I am going to try them out; please accept my regrets.' Another said, 'I have just been married and therefore I cannot come.' So the slave returned and reported this to his master. Then the owner of this house became angry and said to his slave, 'Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.' And the slave said, 'Sir, what you have ordered has been done, and there is still room.' Then the master said to the slave, 'Go out into the roads and lanes, and compel people to come in so that my house may be filled. For I tell you, none of those who were invited will taste my dinner (Luke 14:15-24)."

Now, that is a very unhappy host. And why shouldn't he be? Dinner parties take a large amount of preparation, and the care in the details extends to those invited. It is with the quests in mind that the gathering was prepared in the first place.

But, back up for a moment and reconsider that last telling comment from our Biblical host. Is he still upset, or simply stating a fact? "For I tell you, none of those who were invited will taste my dinner," has always seemed to me to be an angry admonishment, almost a threat, to put the people who didn't attend the gathering firmly in their place. basically, these folks who didn't show up better wake up, smell the coffee and realize what fools they were because now they weren't going to be invited to any dinner, ever again.

But what if that wasn't the intention of the parable's closing line at all? What if Jesus was simply saying that those who didn't come to the dinner didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the feast, really taste the richness of what their host had to offer? That is a very different perspective, one of sadness and regret for a guest who would have savored a meal had they welcomed the invitation and attended the dinner. Rather than bitter feelings and anger from the host toward his no-show guests, feelings that would surely result in these people never being offered an invitation again, there is some sense of bewilderment that leaves room for reflection by an open heart and spirit as to why the snub occurred. The host may not like what happened, but he also has not pushed these guests out of his life forever. And, in fact, he has welcomed more people to his table, desiring to always fully extend his warmth and generosity, desiring a full table at every meal.

Perhaps God's response to our excuses for not coming to the table for the Great Dinner is one of equal bewilderment to the host in Jesus' parable. I know that my friend who loves to give parties would not be angry for long if I didn't attend one of his gatherings, but he would be disappointed and sad. I have been invited to sit at his table because I am loved and cherished as a friend, and that wouldn't change because one invitation had been rejected. I can't imagine that God who loves and cherishes me, God who created me, would treat me any differently.

The Great Dinner is ready, and we are all welcome. We may let other situations in our lives deter us from attending, maybe even on more than one occasion. But God never stops extending the invitation to us to sit down with our dinner companions to share in and savor the taste of all God has to offer.

To Pay Or Not To Pay: Why Ask The Question?

No one likes them, and yet everyone (who wants to stay out of prison) pays them. They help CPAs make a living, and they force everyone else to work harder. Taxes affect everyone. Without them we would have roads like those in most third world countries. Thus we can all recognize the value of tax dollars, and yet we complain when we must pay them. Home business owners have a unique position regarding taxes in that they must actually budget for them. They do not have a business account manager automatically withdrawing their taxes before sending them a paycheck. They do, however, have several options and avenues to take when figuring their taxes.

First and foremost, home business owners can run the Certified Public Accountant route. They may opt to try to save money ultimately by paying someone else to do figure and file their taxes. When a home business opts to do this, they have a third party to send the IRS to if they are ever audited, and they have a professional that understands the newest tax laws. Ultimately, a good CPA will save a home business owner more money than he costs. He will review the taxes and itemizations with the business owner before filing, and he will explain the forms clearly. When a home business owner leaves his CPAs office, he should never feel confused or leave with questions. If he does, then he either needs to speak up more or consider finding a new CPA, one that teaches more than dictates.

Secondly, a great home business owner understands the need to set aside money for taxes. He should maintain a separate checking account just for his business, and whenever he withdraws money for personal use, such as feeding his family or paying the electric bill at home, he should deduct 25 percent from that amount and set it aside for taxes. When he does this, he creates a tax cushion so that when the CPA informs him of what he owes, he will have that money at hand and not have to do something stupid, like charge the taxes on a credit card.

Finally, the tax-savvy home business owner is a saver. He will save receipts whenever he purchases items. While no one wants a messy office or to have the closet of a pack rat, the successful home business owner still keeps these little slips of paper. He creates a filing system that both works for him and makes sense to the general populace that may ever need to find a receipt.

Ultimately, taxes should not be the headache that they have become for home business owners. Sure, we all have to pay them. But in the process, if the home business owner plans for taxes and uses a professional to help him file, he will end up far better off than he could ever imagine in his post-tax world.

The History of Credit Cards

Credit Cards Replacing Paper Money

A credit card is a small piece of rectangular plastic that is no thicker than a sheet of paper, though it cannot be folded. Initially credit cards were metal tokens in the shape of coins, then they changed to metal plates to celluloid then fiber and now plastic with perhaps a photo of the holder and a magnetic strip on the reverse containing security information such as a personal identification number enabling the card to be used at money dispensing machines (ATMs) and merchant establishments.

What is meant by Credit?

Credit is the system of buying some produce or service without having to pay for it at the time of the transaction. The payment is made at a pre-determined later date with the addition of a fee to the bill amount. This is like loaning someone money to buy something without actually giving them the cash but instead giving them the product they want to buy. So, the system of credit is not new to humanity in fact, it is as old as civilization itself or perhaps even older. The entrepreneurs of the inhuman kind have been proclaimed responsible for identifying human needs and wants as a rollicking business, and so they invented the credit card system. Though, disputed by many, The Diners Club is credited to be the ones to invent the credit card in 1950.

When Were Credit Cards Invented?

In contradiction to the theory that The Diners Club started the credit card system, the Encyclopedia Britannica records the origin of credit cards www.onlinecreditcardsinfo.com in the United States as far back as the 1920s. During this time firms such as oil companies and hotel chains started issuing credit cards to their regular and valued customers who were free to use their services and pay them at a later date. These cards were only useful for purchasing goods and services from the companies and establishments that issued the card. However, references to credit cards have been found as early as 1890 in Europe. It was only in the late 1930s that companies started accepting each others credit cards and this is when things began to get complicated for accountants.

Computers Promoted The Use Of Credit Cards

In the beginning there were no computers to record the credit card transactions and the process of verifying the credit balance of the card was done manually through a regularly updated credit card directory, much like a telephone directory. This system was time consuming and tedious and provided many loop holes for credit card fraud. Today, with computerization, the use of a credit card is instantaneous. All one needs to do is to swipe the card through a slot machine and the amount entered. If there is adequate balance in the account of the holder the transaction is completed and the customer billed a month later. Usually credit cards allow for a 50 day credit free period. If the outstanding bill is paid during this time the customer does not have to pay any interest on the transactions, else there is a whopping 2.9% charge per month on the bill amount.

Who Issues Credit Cards?

Banks and financial institutions are the main issuers and promoters of credit cards. The invention of the first bank-issued credit card is credited to John Biggins of the Flatbush National Bank of Brooklyn in New York. This was the year 1946 and Biggins did not know at the time that he had hit upon an idea that would take the world of credit by storm in times to come. From this first credit card called Charge-It many cards have flooded the market such as the all famous American Express credit card and the Diners credit card. The Bank of America issued the BankAmericard in 1958. This card is now known as the VISA card. Around the same time the popular MasterCard came into being. These are the two prevailing cards being used today. The era of plastic money had begun.

Heliskiing and Cat Skiing for Novices

This article is directed to all skiers who have either an unsatisfied craving for powder skiing or who want to become powder skiers. Backcountry skiing may provide your Nirvana. Prior experience is not required and there is lots of opportunity for intermediate skiers!

Is backcountry skiing for me? Can I do it? Is it safe? We'll speak to your fears and help answer your questions. Perhaps backcountry skiing is the answer to your prayers. Perhaps it is very much for you and you can easily do it. Perhaps it is really quite safe, at least relative to what you already do in life. Read on and find out.

There are thousands of powder skiing enthusiasts around the world who spend their winters waiting patiently for the next "dump", that rare event that deposits more light fresh snow overnight than the groomers can beat down before the lift opens. These patient folk range from intermediate skiers through experts but, irrespective of ability, they all share a love for making first tracks in fresh snow and the only thing that separates them is just how "steep and deep" they like it.

By opening time on those rare "powder days", the lineup at the chairlift can be so long that all the ungroomed runs will be entirely skied out before late arrivals even get on the lift. All over town, employees are phoning in "sick". For the early-birds, there is rarely more than a couple of good runs to be had in "great" untracked snow. It's really not a very encouraging picture!

What's the alternative? How can one get at least a few days a year of really good powder skiing? One choice might be a trip to Utah*(see note below), where "powder days" might be more frequent. However, it's still a horserace to the best snow and by mid-day things are getting a little worn out. Perhaps a better option is to head for the backcountry and its limitless reaches of deep untracked snow.

Some folks have the fitness, training, knowledge, equipment and the time to head for the hills on touring skis, or on downhill skis fitted with heel-release bindings. However, even that involves a heck of a lot of walking and not all that much powder skiing. Also, out-of-bounds skiing is certainly not for everyone that happens to be a fervent "powder hound". Most skiers just don't have the knowledge and experience to be safe in the backcountry, nor do they have the equipment.

The alternatives that really satisfy a "powder lust" are heliskiing and cat skiing. These activities provide a reliable means by which average intermediate and expert skiers can "ski their legs off" and to enjoy lots great powder skiing in deep light snow. Every day, all day long, almost every turn is made in fresh untracked snow. By the end of each day, intermediate skier and expert alike can expect to have very few turns left in them.

There is no question that heliskiing and cat skiing are relatively expensive activities. However, cost varies widely depending on the service provided. At one extreme is a snowcat skiing day-trip that might provide three or four 1500 to 2000 ft descents in the best powder imaginable. At the other extreme is a full-service multi-day heliskiing tour based in a luxurious mountain lodge where ski groups might comprise only 4 to 6 people. In between is a wide range of service with an equally wide price range. Only you can evaluate what a day or a week of great powder skiing is worth to you, what you can afford and which of the many options best meets your needs.

If you could consider a vacation in Mexico or Bermuda or Hawaii or southern France (depending on where you live) then you may well be able to afford a very nice multi-day, fully-guided backcountry ski trip. However, beware that backcountry skiing is highly addictive.

There are over two dozen heliskiing companies and about 16 cat skiing companies in western Canada alone. Most of them are doing quite well, and enjoy good bookings. By and large, these operators rely on intermediate skiers to keep their doors open. The barrier to mechanized backcountry skiing is much more a monetary issue than an issue of skiing prowess, age, fitness and backcountry experience, especially in the case of heliskiing.

Heliskiing and cat skiing do not require any backcountry experience or special equipment. None at all! You don't even need powder skis, just boots and clothing. The operator will supply skis that are well suited for his local conditions. The operator will also supply safety equipment and provide training and experience in its use. The guides handle all the rest.

Age offers no barrier to backcountry skiing. Heli and cat ski operators welcome male and female clients of age ranging from the 20's well into the 80's. Consider that the folks who can afford a high-end heliskiing trip tend not to be "young bucks" who spend their days in the gym and delight in throwing themselves off cliffs. They tend to be more "mature" folk who drive a desk all year and may not be particularly fit, or they may be retirees.

If you can ski almost everything in your local ski area, you probably have more than enough skill to handle backcountry skiing. Style is not important, just a reasonable level of skill and fitness. For heliskiing in particular, you should be able to ski for a day and still be able to walk.

The Web site of Purcell Heliskiing states that, "Skiers should be able to ski groomed blue runs confidently and be physically fit in order to get the most out of their heli-ski adventure". Purcell Helicopters also recommends that, "Snowboarders need to be advanced and able to board at higher speeds comfortably to get the most out of the deep powder conditions".

Powder skiing in the backcountry alpine can be easier than in the local ski resort, because the snow is generally unbroken, light and very consistent. There are no buried moguls to knock you about, or old ski tracks to cross or lumps of piled-up snow to contend with. It does not take long to "get the hang of it". You might encounter some wind crust or sun crust, but your guide will work very hard to avoid it. With heliskiing in particular, your guide will have many options for finding areas of great snow.

Your guide is a real pro! He (or she) is there, not to get some "turns" for himself, but to help you have the greatest ski day of your life. Your guide will select terrain that suits your ability and keeps you safe. However, he/she may challenge you to expand you horizons and improve your skiing.

Your heliski or cat ski operator will attempt to assemble ski groups that are as well matched in ability as possible and your guide will select terrain that suits the skill level of your group. Assembling well-matched groups is simplified when groups of friends book together. Many operators offer a discount to groups of particular size.

During your backcountry ski trip, your skiing will improve, possibly dramatically. The deep consistent snow will permit you to ski slopes that are steeper than you might normally attempt. Your guide will always be attentive to your concerns and can be trusted to find terrain in which you are safe. Some cat-skiing group organizers ski for free.

Tree skiing is a fixture of backcountry skiing. When the weather deteriorates, tree skiing provides the deepest, most protected snow and the best visibility. Some operators offer a predominance of tree skiing and many backcountry skiers prefer skiing the trees to skiing the open alpine slopes.

Generally, tree skiing in the backcountry quite different from tree skiing in your local ski resort. Again, the soft consistency of the snow and the absence of any old tracks and moguls makes all the difference. Also, in many areas, such as the Monashee and Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia, trees tend to be large and well spaced and the very deep snow cover buries most of the smaller trees and all of the underbrush. Many intermediate skiers who try tree skiing for the first time find that not only can they do it, but that they come to really enjoy it.

For a novice backcountry skier who is unsure about his or her ability, snowcat skiing offers a very forgiving introduction to backcountry skiing. The snowcat rides between runs are relatively long (15 to 20 min) and are very comfortable. There is lots of time to rest tired legs, to adjust clothing, to warm up or to cool down and to take on food and drink. The snowcat is dedicated to your group, so you can take along changes of clothing and you can always sit out a run and ride back down the hill, either in the comfort of the cab or "up front" with the driver. The cat is never terribly far from the lodge so, if you want to quit early for the day, a staff member will be happy to come on a snowmobile to take you back to the lodge. It's all very relaxed.

On the other side of the coin, groups of expert skiers will find that snowcat skiing can give them a lot of skiing, with some operators able to provide over 20,000 ft a day. Experts will find that they are plenty tired by the end of the day.

Heliskiing can also offer the individual an opportunity to quit early for the day, but not always and sometimes not at all (conveniently). Two or more groups usually share the helicopter, so while you are skiing, the machine is shuttling another group. Compared with cat skiing, trips are shorter and there is not the same opportunity to "rest and re-organize" and to take along changes of clothing.

However, the heliski guide will match the terrain to a groups ability. Often, if a rest is needed, a group can simply skip a run. Alternatively, the guide might use lower landings or higher pickups, in order to "cherry pick" the section of a run which is most suitable for his or her guests. In this way, guides can give novice skiers a comfortable environment in which to learn and progress.

Generally, the greatest concern in backcountry skiing relates to safety. All reputable heliskiing and cat skiing operators and guides take safety very, very seriously. The guides that lead you are well trained and their major purpose and focus is to keep you safe. Guides know their terrain very well, they constantly monitor snow conditions and they compare their findings and conclusions with fellow guides and backcountry operators in neighboring areas. They know what's going on with weather and snow conditions, not only in their own area, but for miles around.

Cat ski and heliski operators develop operating procedures and emergency and communications plans that cover every contingency and all staff are well versed in these plans and procedures. In western Canada, HeliCat Canada (formerly the British Columbia Heli and Snowcat Skiing Operators Association [BCHSSOA]) sets operating and safety policy and procedures for all operators and regularly inspects heliskiing and cat skiing operations to ensure safety standards are met.

The Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) provides much technical training and support to the operators and to the guides and guides' associations. Among other things, the CAA co-ordinates daily delivery of early morning reports covering the entire Province of British Columbia. These reports are based on detailed daily reports from all backcountry operators, as well as government operators such as the Ministry of Highways and ski areas across the Province. These reports predict trends and conditions as changing weather patterns sweep across the Province. Similar provisions and support are provided in other jurisdictions where heliskiing and/or cat skiing is found.

Your heliski or cat ski operator will provide all clients with a transceiver that everyone wears when outside the lodge. The guides will provide training and practice in the use of the emergency equipment and in the on-hill safety procedures. Operators will also provide other safety equipment such as shovels and probes.

At any time, it is common for there to be areas within the ski terrain that at are entirely safe to ski, while other areas impose some degree of risk. There are many factors that affect snow stability and hazard, including the amount and type of precipitation, aspect (north-facing, east-facing, etc.), exposure to sun and wind and exposure to dangers above. Sometimes the issue is not one of snow stability, but one of finding the best skiing. Whatever the issue, safety is at the root of it and the guide's job is to navigate a safe route while finding the best possible skiing. When there is doubt about a particular slope, the guide will simply not ski the "line" in question and will opt for a safer alternative.

It's imperative to follow the guide's instructions. When the guide says, "Keep to the right of my track", there is usually a very good reason for it, one that many not be at all apparent. Then the guide stops to allow his troops to re-group, never ski below the guide's stopping point. He has probably chosen his stopping point for a good reason that you know nothing about. Trust your guide and follow his or her instructions. Your guide will keep you safe and lead you too the very best skiing around.

Many guides feel they are much safer doing their work in the high mountains than they are driving to and from work on our highways.

For a backcountry novice who is unsure about attempting a first heliskiing or cat skiing trip, a prudent approach is to arrange a ski trip to a ski area where there is a backcountry operator that offers day-trips. Try to pick an area to visit that has reliable weather and good snow at the time of your visit. Remember that heli and cat skiing is done at high elevations so, if it rained in town last night, it probably puked where you will be skiing. When checking out the local operators, ask about the access time to the first run, the current snow conditions, the number of runs that will be provided and the vertical drop that will be skied. Also, ask if there is good tree skiing in close proximity to the lodge. If it snows and the visibility drops, good tree skiing will be very important. Finally, if you have doubts about your ability or level of fitness, speak to a few operators and ask for their advice. Different operators provide different levels of skiing.

When looking for your first backcountry ski trip, shop around and talk to a number of operators. They will always work hard to give good advice and to help you choose the best venue for your skill and fitness level. Every operator will want you to become a backcountry skier, but no operator will want you in one of their groups, if you will be out of place and become a liability. If you are well placed for your first trip, you will be back next year, a much stronger and more skilled and confident backcountry skier. As we said, backcountry skiing is infectious. Some say, "It's better than sex".

Good luck.

A very experienced heliguide writes, "I think this (the Utah reference) is a myth. The interior BC has as many powder days if not more. Checking the snowfall and smowpack depth statstics breaks the myth. Interior BC has it. Also, the runs are longer in BC and there are far fewer people with less pressure on the land base. ie the fresh snow."

Taking The Family On Holidays

Avid travelers are full of wanderlust and refuse to give up their love for exploring the world, even when busy raising a family. And why should they? Traveling with children can be a joy and taking the family on holidays near and far can produce a lifetime of unforgettable memories.

Its true, however, that enjoying a vacation with kids is a bit different than an all-adult excursion. Thats not necessarily a bad thing! Traveling with children requires a bit more thought and you may be slightly restricted as to your choice of destination. But all the other perks of introducing your children to different world cultures far outweigh the sacrifices you may need to make until they grow up and you can venture off on your own once again.

Finding the Best Fit for Your Family

Where you choose to take your family on holiday can depend on lots of factors including your preference of activities, like sightseeing, sporting/active pursuits, cultural opportunities, and so forth. Begin your search for a good holiday destination by considering the things youd like to do while youre away from home. These may be activities you enjoy on a regular basis or things you rarely get to do except when youre on vacation. Are you:

An adventurous family? If so, choose a destination where you can participate in fun and daring activities like trekking, climbing, diving, jet boating, and camping under the stars. (Provided the age of your children can support these activities.) You may be just the right family for an African safari or a trip to South Americas Andes Mountains. Closer to home, your family may be ideal for a camping trip through the National Parks or a whitewater rafting trip down the Colorado River.

An artsy, cultural family? If so, select a vacation destination that can provide your fill of cultural activities. Big cities are always ideal, because you can usually find plenty of museums, theaters, concert venues, and such. Try one of the great cities of North America, like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Toronto, or Vancouver. Or, if you prefer, choose a wonderful, historic European city, like London, Rome, Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, Moscow, Barcelona, or Budapest. All have something a little different to offer.

A fun-loving family? If so, youll want to travel to a destination where your family can play together from morning til night. Maybe you enjoy amusement and water parks, taking in a local major league sporting event, playing volleyball on the beach, tobogganing through the snow, or taking part in fun and unique local festivals. There are a number of wonderful places for fun-seeking families to visit including resorts like Walt Disney World or the other Disney properties, the wacky beaches of Southern California, or even a quaint ski village in the Alps. The beauty of being a fun-loving family is that you can probably turn just about any vacation into a rollicking good time for all!

Age-Appropriate Holidays

The ages of your kids will help determine where you head for your next holiday. Teenagers can do just about anything.but will they? Be sure you allow your fickle teenager to be a part of the planning so that when you arrive at your destination, theyll be looking forward to participating in the activities theyve read about during the planning process. Be ready to compromise. Your teens first choice may not be yours, but perhaps you can find a destination that has a little something for both of you.

Traveling with elementary school-aged children can be a treat! Unlike their teen counterparts, theyre excited about everything, eager to learn, and willing to try new things. Kids from about age 7 to 12 are the easiest with whom to travel as theyll make the most of their new adventures.

Trips with babies and toddlers can be challenging. Theres so much to plan before you depart and it often seems as if you need to carry the entire house with you on your trip. Remember, unless youre going to a third-world country, you can buy diapers and other essentials when you reach your destination. Pack lightly and choose a simple destination, like a beach, where you can enjoy fun in the sun. All-inclusive resorts, found in places like the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico, often have special programs for toddlers and also offer certified in-room babysitting services so that parents can enjoy a dinner or evening alone.

Remember not to push your kids too far. Little ones have a limit. So do teenagers. When youre tempted to do just one more museum or spend just a half-hour more in the sun, consult your kid. If theyve already said theyre tired or hot or cold, call it a day. Your trip will run much more smoothly when your children are happy.

Food

While domestic travel rarely presents a problem when it comes to food even for the pickiest of eaters international destinations where the food is foreign can be a real challenge for parents traveling with children.

Even the well-traveled child has likes and dislikes and you cant expect your child to go without a meal. Thats why its always best to bring along a few staples just in case. Peanut butter is always a good bet, as is cereal, especially the small boxes that fit easily in your suitcase. Crackers work well, too. Any of those foods can be eaten at any meal and their familiarity will provide comfort to a child whos overwhelmed by the foreign-ness of the food on the table in front of them.

Also be sure that the food and water your child is consuming is safe. Kids are more prone than adults to intestinal disorders caused by impure water and other food-related concerns. Theres nothing worse than a sick kid in a foreign country!

Plan Well

Truly, good planning can be the difference between a good holiday and a disastrous one. When youre traveling with adults, its okay to leave things to chance, like a hotel reservation or a train ticket. With a family, however, the more complete your plans, the better.

That doesnt mean, of course, that you need to schedule every minute of every day. Kids are spontaneous and just when you think an activity or attraction might consume 15 minutes of your time, your children may love it and you may wind up spending an hour or two at that particular task. Go with the flow and let your children take the lead. Thanks to them, you may discover things youd have never found on your own!

Baby Budgeting Tips

Bringing a baby into the world brings many responsibilities, one of which is the management of your finances. A baby and child will create many changes to your income and expenditures. By getting your finances in order early you can look forward to a bright future through parenthood where finances aren't a cause of stress or worry.

Consolidate & reduce existing debts - It's easy to accrue debts on credit cards, store cards and personal loans. Why not consolidate your existing debts into one place to reduce your monthly interest payments. You can consolidate debt from credit cards using a balance transfer offer such as 0% on balance transfers for 6 months. During these 6 months you should focus on reducing the debt as much as possible.

Make extra home loan repayments - If you have a home loan and are both currently employed you should use your dual incomes to make as many extra repayments on your home loan as you can manage before dropping to one income. Make sure your home loan has a free redraw facility so that you can pull any extra repayments back out at a later date should you need it. Even if you pull most of the money back out after you have the baby you will still of reduced your interest payments in the meantime and further reduced the principle balance.

Check your Health Insurance cover - Having a baby can rack up some big healthcare bills especially is there are any complications. If you don't have private health cover you should consider taking it out in advance of getting pregnant as many funds have a 12 month wait before they pay out for maternity expenses. If you already have health cover, check the policy and ensure maternity cover is included. If not, you may need to upgrade or shop around for another policy.

Protect your income - While an additional expense, it is seriously worth considering income and life insurance should the worse happen. The upbringing of a child create a large financial repsonsibility. You need to be confident that your home loan could be paid off and essential costs such as education and living costs covered in the event that an income is lost or something happens to one of you.

Save for your future - Think about saving for education and other future costs by starting a high interest savings account. Online only savings accounts often have higher interest rates and lower fees than tradtional banks. If you looking for bigger returns with a long term investment then you could look into managed funds or shares.

Think ahead - is your retirement plan working for you - Make sure you have your entire retirement plan in one place to avoid paying multiple account fees. Look for retirement plans with low fees and strong performance results. The thought of your children growing up may seem a long way ahead but you need to get your money working for you now to ensure a good financial position for yourself when they eventually flee the nest.

Try out living on just one income - It can be a shock moving from a dual income household to a single income household when you have a baby. To make things easier why not try and live off one income for a while before the baby is born. The other income can be put towards extra home loan repayments or reducing debt as suggested in the other tips.

Don't spend money when you don't have to - The great thing about having a baby is that friends and family are keen to help out. If you've have friends who have had babies before you why not see if they have toys, clothes or equipment that they don't need anymore. Ebay, online classifieds and your local newspaper are also excellent places to find baby goods second hand. To save money of expensive toys that your baby will soon grow bored of you can use local toy libraries for a small cost.

Babies can save you money as well! - While there may be no shortage of costs around bringing up a child, you'll probably notice you spend less money on entertainment such as going out to restaurants and bars, especially in the first years after having a child. They will provide you with plenty of 'entertainment' and keep you occupied day and night.

How Much Do You Know About Halloween?

How much do you know about the spooky holiday of Halloween? As you probably know, Halloween is celebrated on the 31st October and the name Halloween descends from the old name Hallows Eve, the night of the dead. This is why children and adults alike dress up as spooky characters suck as ghosts, goblins, vampires, monsters, witches and anything that goes bump in the night.

It is also said that on this night dedicated to the dead, that there are more spiritual energies, making it a more receptive night to contact the dead, and for the dead to contact the living.

Halloween is often considered an American festivity, so it might surprise you to know that it originated in Ireland as the Pagan Celtic harvest festival Samhain. Halloween wasn't exported to America until the 19th century, when many Irish folk emigrated.

The Celts celebrated as their harvest festival because by the end of October all the hard work of harvesting the crops was over. They also saw Halloween as marking the time when the days would shorten and there would be darkness and coldness of the winter season.

Many Christians prefer to celebrate the following day, All saints day on 1st November (also know as 'All hallows' and 'All souls day') This is to avoid conflict with their religious beliefs. The word hallow means sanctify in old English, 'to free from sin'. All saints day is therefore considered to be a day of goodness.

Halloween and its festivities have now been spread to most of the western world. However, the old Halloween meaning has been lost and replaced. Nowadays Halloween is seen as a festive holiday of fun and spookiness. A time to dress up and have a fun time, maybe to go trick or treating or to go to a spooky Halloween part. Halloween is a time to spook yourself, or maybe someone else, BOO!

Preventing Baby Rash

Your baby perhaps has not had a diaper rash lately. But if some tender part of your baby's skin remains wet and warm too long, you are likely to end up alongside a fussing infant brought about by the itchy, stinging, burning, small red bumps that doctors merely call "miliaria rubra."

The exact mechanism by which heat and moisture band up to trigger this baby's skin problem is still being debated by scientists. But one of the latest theories says that a breed of bacteria that lives on the skin produces a small slime when your baby's skin stays wet and hot for too long.

While this is happening, the heat is additionally swelling your baby's sweat glands, opening them up to invasion. So the exterior slime plugs up the swelled sweat glands, causing the rash. With this, experts contest that anything that irritates or clogs the sweat glands can cause the rash.

But whatever the origin of heat rash on babies, the key to enjoining this itchy annoyance in babies is to understand the right pointers regarding baby skin care. Understanding important baby skin care tips will help parents manage the sweat glands right and will teach them how to have the greatest skin care for their baby.

Below are four pore-friendly things you can do:

1. Put on your baby's coolest clothes

Heat rash is often caused by tight clothing. When it is hot and humid, it would be best for parents to let their babies wear loose-fitting clothing that breathes and that has light weave. Cotton is a prime candidate. The difficulty with most parents is that they tend to wrap their babies with tight-fitting clothes plus blankets, peculiarly for the newborns, thinking that it will give their baby the identical comfortable surroundings he had grown used to while inside the mother's womb.

This is one of the many misconceptions regarding baby skin care. What most parents do not know is that most of the babies rashes are caused by extreme heat brought about by tight-fitting clothes or wrong materials.

Therefore, if your baby is prone to rashes, try to refrain from letting him put on silk or other rash-generating material. Usually give him cotton-made outfits so as to elude development of rash.

2. Replace baby's diaper as often as possible

Other causes of rashes can be attributed to the way parents use diapers. Many parents forget to monitor their baby's diapers. Hence, they seldom forget to check on their baby's wet and soiled diapers. In the end, the wet diaper stays on the baby's skin for too long, and considering it is usually attached to the skin, heat is also established.

The combination of warmth and moisture is extremely dangerous for your baby's skin, as this will trigger the development of bacteria. In turn, your baby will develop some diaper rash.

So, in order to avoid such dilemma, it would be better to change your baby's diaper as often as possible.

On the other hand, it would also be better if you will let your baby's skin breathe from time to time. This means that you should let your baby be free from diaper use for a predetermined period of time. For instance, if it is daytime and your baby is simply playing most of the time, try to let him wear something cooler. Try to free him from diapers at this time. Keep in mind that the more your baby's skin can breathe, the lower probability that your baby will develop a rash.

3. Use mild soap that is especially made for babies

Babies are known to have the most sensitive skin. Hence, most dermatologists and pediatricians do not recommend using antibacterial soap for your baby. In fact, they do not recommend any soap aside from baby's soap containing super mild ingredients. Soaps not made for babies may bear harsh chemical that could cause dryness on the skin. This can also trigger the development of rashes.

Furthermore, even if you were using the mildest soap for your baby's skin, it would still be better to cleanse well before taking him out of the bathtub. Any soap residue on your baby's skin can plug sweat glands and, consequently, cause rashes.

Given all that, caring for your baby's skin may not be that hard. All you need to do is to bear in mind the important pointers that you need to know so that you understand what to avoid and what to have for your baby's delicate skin.

How To Organize A Baby Shower

Although a newborn's arrival into the world can be a joyful occasion, it can also bring a lot of stressnot just for the parents, but for family and friends as well.

Baby showers are the perfect example. While they are used to celebrate the arrival of a brand new life into the world, they can also be stressful for the person hosting the occasion. If you are planning to throw a baby shower for a friend or a relative, and you are not sure exactly how to start organizing it, this article provides some tips.

Best time for a baby shower?

The best time to throw a baby shower is on the weekend, preferably mid-morning to late afternoon. Why? Because people work during the week. Also, consider having the baby shower later on in the mother-to-be pregnancy, around 9 weeks before the birth is best.

A baby shower can also be held after the birth of the child. This is the best plan if the mother-to-be is having complications with her pregnancy.

How many people should I invite?

One normally invites anywhere from 10 to 20 people to a baby shower. What one should also take into consideration when inviting people, is whether or not the location of the baby shower can accommodate only a few or a large group of people.

How long should a baby shower last?

A baby shower generally lasts about two to three hours. That should be enough time for everyone to mingle, the presents to be opened, and food eaten. Also, take into consideration the mother-to-be is more easily exhausted.

Who should pay for the baby shower?

The host/hostess should pay for the baby shower. A baby shower is perceived as a gift from the host to the bride. It is not unusual or wrong for the host to ask family or close friends to help out monetarily. So, if you need some financial help, don't be shy in asking family and close friends. What is not acceptable is asking the mother-to-be for monetary help.

Should I throw a surprise shower?

If you are thinking of throwing a surprise shower, you may want to rethink. Surprise showers can cause the host all kinds of problems, namely making sure the mother-to-be arrives at the shower on time. The best plan is to throw a baby shower that the mother-to-be is aware of because she can offer much needed suggestions to the host.

Do you need to send out invitations?

Yes, one needs to send out invitations for a baby shower. It does not have to involve fancy stationery. One can go to any greeting card store and purchase invitations at a reasonable price. It is also important that you send out the invitations a few weeks in advance, preferably three to four weeks.

Can I have games at the baby shower?

Games are indeed very popular at baby showers. However, baby showers are primarily about the food, drink (non-alcoholic), presents and conversations. So while having games at a baby shower is fine, do not feel pressured to have them. If you do opt for games at a baby shower, be creative and make sure the games center on the baby and mother-to-be.

When should the presents be opened?

The presents should be opened after food has been enjoyed and games played, if you decide to have them.

Themes

In this day and age, a lot of baby showers have themes. There are advantages to a theme orientated baby shower. It can certainly make the shower easier to organize. You can make up your own them theme or use some already established popular baby showers themes, which include:

Tea party, which can be fun.

Book party, where everyone brings books as gifts for the baby and mother.

Diaper party, where the baby shower centers on gifts that deal with the bare necessities like diapers or baby bottles.

Extend Your Budget with Clothing Capsules

Clothing capsules offer a clever way to extend your wardrobe and do a lot with a little. By using the clothes you already have in new and different combinations, you give yourself lots of options without buying anything new. In fact, once you understand how clothing capsules work, you can build your wardrobe around them and give yourself tons of outfits -- and stop wasting money on impulse items that don't go with anything else you own.

The first thing you need to do is remember when planning clothing capsules is that you CAN mix and match your clothes. Often, we get in such a rut that we forget that there's more than one way of doing things. Once you break out of that way of thinking and try different things, you'll be amazed as what you can do.

So what's a clothing capsule?

A clothing capsule is a group of 5-12 pieces (jacket, skirt, slacks, etc.) that work in combination with each other in color, style, or mood. Black pants with a leapored print scarf, for example, or a white skirt with a navy and white top.

If you always wear certain tops with certain bottoms or always wear the same jewelry with a certain dress, realizing that you can wear those tried-and-true combos in different ways becomes very liberating. It also allows you to do a lot more with your wardrobe, enabling you to buy less, save more, and still look great all the time.

While there are no set rules, here are some general guidelines for building wardrobe capsules:

*Solids mix more easily than prints.

*Prints can bridge two completely different solids.

*Simple, untrimmed styles are more versatile and become less dated.

*Each piece should be in your most flattering color palette and fit both your shape and your clothing personality. Don't buy items that don't fit or make you look good.

*Avoid trendy styles. What's "in" this year will be "out" next year and you'll be out the cash. Invest in classic styles instead to get more wear out of your clothes.

Now I know from experience that some women are really good at mixing and matching while others need a little more help. Arrange your closet for easy access by keeping all the pants together, all the jackets together, all the skirts together, etc., by color, so that you can see at a glance what you have to work with.

Study catalogs and window displays for ideas. Make note of how a jacket might be worn a little differently or how an accessory might be worn in a new way. It doesn't take a lot.

To re-emphasize: Start building your capsules with what you have. Often, the first inclination is to go run buy something new. It's not necessary. See what you have, see what you need, and add pieces as your budget allows.

In the meantime, experiment with what you have. Write down the combinations if necessary. You'll get the hang of this in no time.

Once you unlock your creativity by looking at your wardrobe every which way, you'll soon find yourself doing the same with other aspects of your life, like your home, your job, problem solving, etc. When you do, you'll be delighted at what your imagination can come up with. In the words of fashion designer Jil Sander, "Think more, buy less."

Protect Yourself from Identity Theft

Its happened to me. About a year ago, someone got a hold of my bank card numbers. Fortunately, the crook made some international purchase which immediately clued me in and my bank was quick to settle the whole thing. But most people arent so lucky. Identity theft is a serious crime thats growing each year. Victims of identity theft can spend months, or even years, trying to repair a ruined credit history, which can compromise your chances of getting a new job, a bank loan, insurance or even rental housing. Follow these steps to help keep your identity safe:

Protect Your Credit Card Number When Making Purchases

Check your receipts after making a purchase with your credit or debit card. In most cases, the printed receipt hides all but the last 4 digits of your credit card account number, but some terminals still print receipts that show all 16 digits of your account number and the expiration date. If you get one of these receipts, black out the numbers entirely before throwing it away this is all the information a thief needs to make charges using your card. You're also permitted by law to hide the first 12 digits of your account number on any copies of the receipt that the seller keeps.

Its especially important to keep tabs on your receipts at restaurants. Think about it you pay for your meal and then leave the signed receipt on your table for the waiter to pick up. But in a busy restaurant, its easy for a potential thief to accidentally bump your receipt off the table (or just steal it) and get your information. If the restaurants receipt shows all of your account information, black out the first 12 digits of your credit card number before leaving the restaurant.

Do You Really Need To Give Your Social Security Number?

Be very stringent about who you give your social security number to. Youll probably need to share your number when you apply for credit or for a bank account, but sometimes a store or an organization will want to use it as an ID number, simply to identify you within their system. This is not only dangerous its illegal. The law says that social security numbers aren't to be used as ID numbers. If youre ever unsure about giving out your social security number, ask if theres an alternative there is in most cases.

Destroy Documents That Contain Sensitive Personal Information

Buy a paper shredder and use it to destroy any documents that contain credit card numbers, social security numbers, phone numbers, your date of birth and any other personal information before throwing them away. Any credit card offers should also be shredded thieves can fill out the applications and open a line of credit without you ever knowing. Dont think that throwing out these documents is enough identity thieves aren't above going through the trash to find information that can help them get credit in your name.

If The Worst Happens

If you do become a victim of identity theft, take the following steps immediately:

* Contact your credit card companies to let them know whats going on, close your accounts and ask to have new cards issued to you.

* Place a fraud alert on your file with any one of the three major credit bureaus. The other two will be notified automatically.

* File a police report. You may need it to show to creditors as proof of the crime.

* File a complaint with the FTC, which maintains a database of identity theft cases used by law enforcement agencies for their investigations.

Its not fun to think about identity theft, but in this age of technology, you cant afford not to. Identity thieves get smarter every day just think of the recent rash of companies announcing that their client databases have been hacked into, exposing personal information. Some things are out of your control, but there are some simple precautions you can take to keep your personal information secured. Keeping your identity safe may be one of the most important things you do for your financial future.

When You're At Your Wit's End: Shopping Survival Tips for Moms

Each month there are special days to celebrate, whether it is someone's birthday, anniversary or a major holiday. Many times the task of choosing gifts becomes Mom's responsibility.

Getting Started

It is good to organize your list if you are shopping for the holidays or several things at one time. Before you go, write suggestions on your list for the gifts you have to buy.

Making choices for individuals is sometimes the hardest part of shopping. Relating to a person's interests or hobbies can be helpful to get started. For someone who likes to use computers and laptops, buy accessories for them, such as Skype extra services. Other popular electronic gifts are Xbox and video games. Children and grandchildren will get many hours of pleasure in these activities.

Traditional gifts are always appreciated. For ladies, jewelry, perfume, and clothing accessories. If the man you know is hard to buy for, consider a gift card, luggage, gym bag or laptop bag. Gifts for the home could be decorative or ornamental, such as a water fountain for the front yard, pewter charger plates, holiday decorations, food gifts, and floral arrangements.

Before You Buy

Before shopping, take time to research products and browse the sale papers to find the best prices. As you make your list, decide on the prices you can afford for each item and stay within your budget so you don't come up short. Many times toys, electronics and computers have a wide range of prices. It might be wise to compare before you shop instead of impulsively buying the first one you see in a store. You may be able to save on one item and spend a little more on another one and stay within your budget.

More people are finding out what a convenience it can be to shop online. There you can search out products and compare brands and prices without leaving home. When shopping online, keep in mind shipping costs that will be added to the final prices. There are sites that offer discount shipping when you purchase multiple items. This could save in the final costs. Some of the best bargains are at online auctions and discount store web sites. Also, by state law you aren't charged sales taxes on purchases made outside your state.

Be Prepared

If you decide to go shopping at your favorite stores, make sure you are prepared. Have your list ready and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Start shopping early and during the week instead of waiting for the weekend. Also, buy heavy gifts last to avoid carrying them around all day and take advantage of gift-wrapping. These practical steps will make your shopping experience more enjoyable.

Acquiring Spiritual Wealth Will Greatly Enrich Your Life

Spiritual wealth is wealth that derives from knowledge. To gain spiritual wealth entails acquiring spiritual knowledge. Facts and information about the spiritual aspect of life are what constitute spiritual knowledge. Such facts and information include: facts about our spiritual nature and the purpose of our life; information about God and the role He plays in human affairs; facts and information on the way our spirituality shapes and orders human life and society; and information on the spiritual principles and processes that regulate our activities and influence the outcome of our pursuits.

We require these facts and information if we are to avoid groping through life guided only by our instincts and emotions. We need these facts and information if we are to perform at our full potential and so get the most out of life.

Let us now examine the many benefits a person will derive from acquiring spiritual knowledge.

Human ability is limited. So is our life span. Consequently, no one has the ability or the time to acquire knowledge and skill in all areas of human endeavour. And so each individual acquires training and then participates in a particular trade or profession. No human being can accomplish all things. If a businessmans car breaks down, he will need a mechanic to fix it. And in the event that the mechanic falls ill, he will need to see a doctor for treatment. We need others and others need us. The sexes need each other in the domestic enterprise of starting and raising a family. It is an apt description of our situation when we say: no man is an island.

Clearly, we are a social species which is why we are constantly interacting with one another. The day begins at home with interaction amongst family members. At the work place we are involved with colleagues, superiors or subordinates. Here also, we have to attend to those who need our products or services and deal with those whose products or services we need. In between the home and work place we have to contend with other road users.

How skillful we are at relating to others goes a long way towards determining how happy and successful we are at home and at work. One of the benefits of acquiring spiritual knowledge is that it enables us to develop interpersonal skills.

Things do not always turn out happily or successfully in spite of our best efforts, individually or collectively. There have been instances where doctors have asked patients to go home and await death as nothing more could be done for them medical science has reached its limit. In spite of impressive advances in modern medicine, sickness is still a major cause of untimely deaths. Technical faults, human error and natural causes have resulted in tragic loss of human lives in accidents involving the different modes of transportation. Our sophisticated early warning devices and protective measures have not always proved adequate in safeguarding us from natural disasters caused by floods, violent storms and earthquake.

Apparently, our limitations as human beings make us unable to cope with every situation or circumstance. On our own, we cannot always ensure our safety, welfare and the success of our pursuits. This is why humans, all through the ages, have instinctively sought to reach out to a power much greater than them to help ensure their well being. And the good thing is this. God created us with limited ability but in His infinite wisdom He has made His unlimited capabilities available to us.

Another benefit of acquiring spiritual knowledge is that it makes us able to access the unlimited powers of God through exercise of faith in Him. The dictum, knowledge is power clearly applies here. The spiritually enlightened individual is a spiritually empowered person.

Human beings have conscience which makes them aware of the choice they ought to make between right and wrong. This, in effect, means that some things we say or do are wrong and some things we say or do are right. A natural consequence of this is that human beings need to be discouraged from doing wrong and they also need to be encouraged to do good. Hence, wrongdoing usually attracts unpleasant consequences while the good we do usually brings us reward.

In fact, our criminal justice system conforms to this pattern. Punishment is meted out to wrongdoers to serve as deterrent. On the other hand, society, by way of encouragement, offers all manner of rewards and awards for those who contribute positively to the system. And this includes the wages or salaries we receive for doing even the most mundane jobs. A porter who helps someone carry their baggage will be rewarded with a tip. But if he steals a bag and is caught, the law will punish him.

And this brings us to yet another benefit of acquiring spiritual knowledge. We are moral beings and spiritual enlightenment enables the individual to attain a high moral state. In addition to being able to tell right from wrong, such a person will be very responsive to their conscience. This way, they will be able to avoid wrongdoing and its repercussions. Such a person will always strive to do good since they know that good deeds will, sooner or later, be rewarded.

It is said that where there is a will, there is a way and that if at first you dont succeed, try and try again. But not everyone is aware of the amazing results determination and perseverance can produce in our efforts to realize our goals and aspirations. Human beings will be spared a lot of worries, doubts and fears if they are aware of the spiritual principle which provides that success will inevitably crown our efforts if we persevere in the pursuit of a goal and if we have faith in God.

Fidel Castro, the Cuban leader, is a man who has made it to the top. His view on what it takes to journey from the bottom to the top is noteworthy. He said: It does no matter how little you are, if you have faith and a plan of action. Awareness of the abovementioned spiritual principle is another important benefit we derive from acquiring spiritual knowledge.

Many people, at one time or another, may have experienced the situation I am about to describe. You have just gone through a bad situation and you are upset. Then someone says or does something annoying and you flare up and respond harshly. What this person has said or done is something you would ordinarily have overlooked but on this occasion you fly off the handle. Why did this happen? Here is the explanation.

The human mind is a creative device such that mental conditions tend to spontaneously manifest as observable phenomena. Any condition, image or vision we hold on to in the mind will, sooner or later, translate into physical reality. This is a natural creative process the process that produces the awesome power of belief. The power of belief is a spiritual resource we can employ to achieve seemingly impossible feats.

This is what Jesus Christ, the great religious teacher, has to say about the power of belief: If you can? Everything is possible for him who believes. (The Bible, Mark 9:23). He did not mention this all-important concept only once. He touched on it again on another occasion. Hear him: Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (The Bible, Mark 11:24). Napoleon Hill, world-famous author of the book, Think and Grow Rich, expressed this concept very succinctly in this statement: Whatever a man can conceive and believe he can achieve.

And so we come to yet another important benefit a person can derive from acquiring spiritual knowledge. The spiritually enlightened individual is able to consciously employ this spiritual resource that is available to us to effectively deal with the difficulties and challenged we all have to face in life. By using affirmations, such a person will hold on to their dream because they know that an unstoppable creative process will ultimately cause their dream to become reality. Such an individual will also appreciate the need to always keep their mind clean by using positive thoughts to clear the mind of negative thoughts and emotions.

That spiritual knowledge is performance-enhancing and life-improving cannot be denied. But then the question arises: Why is the quality of life of religious people not noticeably different from that of non religious people and the populace of religious nations are not better off than those of secular nations?

The answer to this question lies in the fact that the quality of spiritual knowledge available to us thus far is poor. In the established religious teachings, a lot of the facts provided are not backed by proof and many of the beliefs propagated cannot stand up to rational examination. Unverifiable conjectures about existence beyond this life are professed as truths. In fact, fiction, misconception and superstition are being presented as spiritual realities. Obviously, knowledge that is so flawed cannot lead to any great benefits.

But here is cheering news. Quality spiritual knowledge is now available under the name, Spiritual Science. This is spiritual knowledge that has been obtained using the scientific methods of observation, experimentation and logical deduction. In scope and depth, Spiritual Science provides sufficient spiritual knowledge that will enable humans attain full spiritual enlightenment.

The opportunity to gain spiritual wealth and greatly enrich our lives has never been so good for the human race. We owe it to ourselves to get more out of life by acquiring this knowledge-based wealth.

Bible Studies Help You To Increase Your Faith

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Romans Chapter 10 verse 14

I love the Bible and as much as possible prefer to study what it has to say for itself however there comes a time when we all need someone to tell us something or explain or expound a scriputre for us.

Yes we all need Bible study lessons.

You see it doesn't matter how many times you read something if you don't understand you subconsciously skip over that item. In fact sometimes you don't even see it and then when someone else points it out you are amazed that you didn't see it.

The Bible can be like that. Sometimes we need a preacher and I'm not just referring to the bloke behind the pulpit on Sundays.

For me one of the most important times of my life when I depended on Bible study lessons was when I was a child in Sunday School. I loved the Bible stories of Daniel in the Lions Den, Shadrach, Meschach and Abednigo in the fiery furnace, the stories about Abraham, Joseph and the coat of many colors and so on.

Those initial Bible Study lessons gave me a taste of what God was all about. It ignited my excitement and created a thirst to know more.

I believe there is one very important point to come out of all this when giving Bible Study lessons. Keep it as simple as possible. Those amazing stories explained in simple child-like terms are awe inspiring without any complicated deep searching.

Jesus spoke in parables. In other words when He gave a Bible Study lesson he spoke to people in a way that they could understand by comparing Godly things with the stuff that they could relate to.

You don't need a doctrate, a theological degree or any other higher learning certificate to preach the word of God or to understand it. Most of the early disciples were ignorant and unlearned men according to the religious leaders of their day because unlike these days schooling was not readily available.

Simple labourers and fisherman filled with the Holy Spirit of God could give better Bible Study lessons then any non-spiritfilled individual. If you have tasted of the power of God then preaching the word becomes easy for both you and your listeners.

Cleaning and Caring for Gemstones

Colored gemstones are much more delicate than diamonds and need special care and careful cleaning. Regular gentle cleaning is recommended instead of the harsh cleaning required to remove a heavy soil build up. Proper storage is also important in caring for your valuables.

Diamonds are used for drilling. They can withstand high temperatures and then a fast cool down in water. Many gemstones would crack or shatter with such extreme temperature changes. Emerald, opal, amethyst and turquoise are some of the gemstones that should be kept away from heat such as a sunny windowsill. When taking a trip to the beach, delicate gemstones should be left at home. Enjoying the sand and then jumping into the surf may be too extreme temperature changes for these gemstones.

Even perfume and lotions may harm turquoise and malachite. Ammonia, caustics and abrasives should never be used on gemstones. Chlorine in swimming pool water may cause pitting in some colored stones. Gemstones may also be damaged by fingernail polish remover.

Ultra sonic cleaners should not be used on a regular basis. Agitation of the machine will remove dirt and also dislodge loose stones from their settings. Some liquid cleaners used may be harmful to the gemstones.

The safest recommended cleaning is to wash in warm water with a mild liquid soap. Then, dry with a soft cloth. The sink drain should always be closed or covered when rinsing any jewelry. With proper care and regular cleaning gemstones should not need any harsh cleaners. Inspection by a jeweler is recommended at least once a year. The jeweler will check for loose stones, worn prongs or any other problems that may arise.

After cleaning, gemstones and all jewelry should be kept in safe place. Protection from damage and theft should be considered when storing jewelry. That jewelry box on the dresser is probably the first place a burglar might look. A safe or hideaway would be better for valuable jewelry and use the fancy jewelry box for costume jewelry. Heirloom pieces seldom worn should be kept in a safe deposit box.

Jewelry boxes with individual compartments or a felt-lined box or tray is recommended for storing precious gems and other jewelry. Rings and other jewelry items with delicate gemstones are safest when stored separately in jewelry bags or pouches. Stones bumping together may get scratched or otherwise damaged. The time you spend caring for your jewels is well worth the time and effort.

The Manufacture Of Women's Pajamas

A pajama is a Hindi word which signifies leg clothing. It originated from India during the 1880's where the first users were men. Instead of using nightshirts, men were using their pajamas when sleeping. Pajamas which can either be a one-piece (pants only) or two-piece (having a shirt and pants) are an outfit covering the legs while nightshirts are long shirts which are extended up to the knee. Now, pajama manufacturers also created a different version of pajamas for women.

Women pajamas are more of a fashion statement for women of the new era. North American young females are wearing pajama pants even in public to express their tastes in fashion. Chinese also publicly wear pajamas around their neighborhood. The use of pajamas is even incorporated in some television shows making it more popular.

However, the idea of using it never changed over the years. Still, it is used for lounging or sleeping purposes.

There are different varieties of women pajamas made of softer material like cotton (particularly flannel) or a luxurious material such as satin or silk and are created with loose fitting designs. These materials are very important because women are often very sensitive and meticulous. The manufacturers ensures that this areas are given due importance so that women are comfortable during their sleep.

-Flannel is made of yarn which is loosely spun to create a woolen fabric according to the level and degrees of fineness and weight. Moreover, flannel is commonly used to refer to the clothing which is made of flannelette. Flannelette is a woven cloth made of combined synthetic fiber and wool, or combined cotton and wool that can be either light weight or medium weight.

-Silk is made of natural fibers rich in protein woven in the form of textiles. It comes from the silkworm larvae's cocoon nurtured in captivity. This material can be very expensive because of its shimmering appearance. The silk cloth has the ability to refract the light penetrating on it at various angles because it has the ability similar to a triangular prism.

-Satin is woven using a warp dominated technique creating the fabric interlacing. The cloth's surface is glossy while its back is dull. Typically, the word satin refers to a fabric made of filament fibers which include silk, polyester, or nylon formed using the satin weave technique. The satin weave is more appropriately used in making fine clothing and evening wears. This became the most favorite material in making pajamas.

Now, there are other materials used for manufacturing pajamas besides these three major fibers. It includes linen, lace, acrylic, cashmere, chiffon, denim, crepe, fleece, down, leather, jersey, rayon, and micro fiber.

The patterns and designs of pajamas have usually visual references which displays the tastes and preferences of the user. Different images such as polka dots, balloons, animals, and sports are imprinted on the chosen material for decoration purposes. But plainer designs are also available such as plain gray or plaid. Pajamas worn in public have are created with unique designs to bring a different appeal on the user.

Women pajamas according to the type of materials used are widely available on various internet websites or local department stores. You only need enough time to search for the right one that will suit your needs, styles, and purposes.

Are Travel Agents A Thing Of The Past?

In the past, before the advent of the Internet, it has largely been too time consuming or too expensive for the average consumer to deal directly with the travel operator and personally arrange every aspect of their holiday. Travel agents became a trusted and speedy medium via which the holiday consumer could book a package that would otherwise be impossible for the independent consumer to find.

The role of the travel agent includes three key tasks:

1) Perform the function of the information broker, passing information between buyers and suppliers

2) Process transactions including printing tickets and forwarding money to suppliers

3) Advise travellers on places to go, things to do and other important information

These three tasks have been lampooned by the information and facilities provided on the Internet. Consumers have recently realised that it is possible to research their planned holiday fully online. Users can find out about specific regional information at the click of a mouse. Small local hotels, specific local attractions and regional tours can be researched with ease before a booking is considered.

In the early years of the Internet, consumers tended not to trust booking online. It was perceived that parting with credit card details over the Internet was not a secure method of payment. Users instead tended to research everything they wanted to know before hand and then contact their travel agent either face-to-face or over the phone to book their holiday package.

The Internet offers an effective means for developing a single and sustainable electronic infrastructure for information gathering and business transactions for both travellers and suppliers. It is an ideal method for people to source information on travel. It is therefore essential for travel-related Websites to offer useful, pertinent and easy-to-find information alongside a booking facility if appropriate. The Internet can be used to fully research a destination, book all aspects of the holiday including travel and communicate others who have the same ideas or have been through similar experiences. It gives travellers an excellent opportunity to compare and contrast everything on offer before they make a purchase.

The information available online is continually being reformatted and presented in a more logical, easy-to-use and read format. The volume of consumers that rely on this information to make travel-related decisions will therefore continue to rise. In addition, features and benefits of using the Internet to research and book holidays are improving and being added to all the time. For example, consumers no longer have to receive printed tickets from the travel operator. They simply print out any information that they require themselves after they receive it automatically via email.

The Internet has meant that people can now easily plan trips for themselves. This has not only opened up a greater amount of discounts available to the general public, but also given people the fun and enjoyment of planning and booking their own trips.

Are travel agents a thing of the past? The future isnt looking too rosy for them. They might perhaps retain their presence in certain specialist markets, where they can offer a unique service to individual market segments but if youre a love all, serve all travel agent youve probably seen your income levels drop significantly over the last few years.

Refinance Your Mortgage Loan After Bankruptcy

Though it may seem impossible, refinancing your home loan after going through bankruptcy is feasible as long as you can meet certain requirements. Finding the right lender is however, a challenging task.

Refinancing After Bankruptcy is Possible

Refinancing a home mortgage is probably one of the few financial transactions that someone who has gone through bankruptcy can achieve within a small period of time after the bankruptcy has been discharged. Since a mortgage loan is secured by an asset, the usually extremely low credit score bared by someone with a bankruptcy in his credit report isnt that detrimental.

Raising your Credit Score

Moreover, refinancing a home loan is an excellent opportunity to raise your credit score and improve credit history. The monthly payments you make will be recorded into your credit report and this will contribute to a continuous increment on your credit rank.

However, since you wont be able to apply for a refinance home loan till six months after your bankruptcy has been discharged. You need to work hard during this period in order to build a good credit history so as to make sure you get approved for your refinance home loan.

Getting Ready for Applying

In order to do so, you need to make all your payments on time including your current home loan installments. This is essential since any late payments or missed payments may be an obstacle between you and your refinance home loan.

If you havent done so yet, open a bank account, either a checking or savings account and get a credit card. If you cant get approved for an unsecured credit card, dont hesitate, apply for a secured credit card and start using it and making regular payments. All this will help you build a healthy credit history and will ensure you get approved for a refinance loan.

Search for a Lender and ask for Loan Quotes

The search for a suitable lender is the main task you need to complete. You can refinance with the same lender that is currently handling your home loan, but dont stick to the first offer you receive. Request loan quotes with every lender you run into and even request online quotes as youll be able to get much better deals this way.

Pay attention to Interest Rates and other fees

You need to pay special attention not only to the interest rate and fees charged by the lender that will refinance your home loan, but also to any punitive fees that your current mortgage loan lender may charge for pre-cancellation of your loan. These fees and costs may turn refinance too onerous to even consider the possibility.

You may have to pay a slightly higher interest rate since youve got a bankruptcy on your credit report, however, dont let lenders take advantage of this situation. This kind of loan is secured by collateral so there is no reason to charge high interest rates, no matter how low your credit score is.
